“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Matthew 3:2b
This may sound either strange to you or you will be able to relate in every way. All my life I would hear these words and never think twice about it. “Repent!” I always thought that it meant “Say you’re sorry!”
It wasn’t till I was saved that I totally understood what that meant because it is much more than saying sorry. It means to turn from your sinful ways and start living a life that is pleasing and glorifying God.
2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” Matthew 3:2
It means submitting to the will of God in everything that you do. Turning from your old ways of sin and self-gratification, greed, lust and gluttony and pride to name a few. From eating right to helping others less fortunate. But, you say, anyone can help someone less fortunate. I would say that you are correct. However, even though we have a sinful nature we also have the Spirit of the living God within us which helps guide us to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord. However, until we submit to God and accept Jesus into our hearts the Spirit is suppressed. Only when we repent and submit to the promise of the Lord do we feel the total freedom in the Spirit. What an amazing feeling it is!
